Infrastructure revamp planned supporting Super Cluster developments

BANGKOK, 14 June 2016 (NNT) – Agencies are working on the plan to upgrade the electricity infrastructure to accommodate development of Super Cluster developments in electrical appliances and telecommunication devices, enhancing the nation’s attractiveness for investments.

Office of Industrial Economics (OIE) Director-General Siriruj Chulakaratana revealed the electronics cluster subcommittee from the OIE and the Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI) have joined hands with the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) to come up with an active plan for electrical system improvement to accommodate more investment in electrical appliances and telecommunication devices.

The OIE has selected big factories in targeted areas to study on the electric outage pattern as information to the PEA to improve the electrical system, with the plan expected to be issued for 7 target provinces in July 2016.

The OIE director-general said electrical appliance and telecommunication device industries have been appointed as Super Cluster industries as they require advanced manufacturing technologies, and shall receive maximum investment benefits in 7 provinces, namely Ayutthaya, Pathum Thani, Chonburi, Rayong, Chachoengsao, Prachinburi, and Nakhon Ratchasima.

The reliability of electrical supply is considered important to these businesses as the manufacturing process requires strict control of particles and contaminant not to exceed the limit, as well as the control of other factors in the manufacturing line such as wind speed, temperature, pressure, humidity, along with the use of computer controlled high precision machines, all of which will be affected from even the slightest drop of electrical volume, requiring the manufacturing line to take 2-3 minutes to restart, affecting the manufacturing cost and time.
