Tony Jaa joins WWF for Thailand to go ‘Ivory-Free’

BANGKOK: -- Action star Tony Jaa joined the WWF-Thailand today to urge Thais to go “ivory free” and help put an end to the relentless slaughter of African elephants for their tusks.

As Thailand is one of the world’s primary destinations for buying smuggled ivory, the “Ivory Free Thailand” campaign is calling on consumers to never buy, own or accept ivory as gifts.

“Some people believe that ivory products can bring you power and good luck, protecting you from evil. But what they don’t know is that the majority of ivory in the Thai market today comes from elephants that are brutally slaughtered,” said Tony Jaa, who grew up in Thailand’s northeastern province of Surin, the province with the largest elephant population in Thailand.

I read it as Tony was joining the World Wrestling Federation.

I don't think dumb dumbs who buy ivory much care that an elephant has been butchered. These are incredibly selfish and deluded people.

I think the best message here is to point out how stupid, ignorant, backward and plainly moronic it is to believe that elephants' ivory gives you special powers. They should have an ad with people wearing ivory round their necks licking windows.

Pity more superstars in Asia aren't on the bandwagon about all the superstitious mumbo jumbo that costs animals their lives and bring species to the brink of extinction.

Well done Mr Tony you are putting your fame into a meaningful project, I can't help but think the road to Ivory - free will be a bumpy one , as Thailand who has everything going for it seems hell bent on destroying itself from within, they are in the forefront of some wonderful projects, all of which are illegal , Human trafficking , wildlife destruction ,slave labour , illegal fishing practices , prostitution of minors , Human rights violations , exploitation of animals ,destruction of native forests and fauna, high crime rate including murders by gun , and no one has any answers , as I write this list Mr Tony I get disheartened with the Land of Smiles, with so much heartache............................................ .
