Tourism laws to facilitate data collection, ensure tourist safety

BANGKOK, 14 June 2016 (NNT) - President of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Klin Sarasin has proposed to Deputy Prime Minister Gen. Tanasak Patimapragorn a suite of amendments in order to raise tourism standards and ensure the safety of travelers.

Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul and Mr. Klin, who is also a member of the National Reform Steering Assembly, met with Gen. Tanasak to brief him on the progress of tourism reforms, which are aimed at centralizing tourism units.

Both the minister and TAT President suggested to the Deputy Prime Minister that certain tourism laws be amended to facilitate tourist data collection and ensure tourist safety.

They recommended replacing the manual method of passport data entry with an e-passport system that will allow hotels to collect personal details faster and more effectively, elevating the standards of accommodation services. The two also called for tourism data, or a ‘Tourism Gateway’ with tourist services, to become more accessible online, in order for the industry to be more competitive.

And how will this save a tourists life? They just keep skirting around the problems. Whole of society, needs dismantling. This will never happen.

bar-code or ear-tag every foreigner; equip the authorities with readers, and tracking apps

issue inflatable sumo costumes, with a non-refundable deposit

issue/require full-coverage bathing attire (to cut down on rape)

It won't.

Just much quicker to identify the body, inform next of kin and repatriate the corpse...therefore reducing the damage to Thailand's tourism industry.

...and maybe make counting tourists a little easier.

But saving tourists life...not so much.

It is not hard to see a heap of new bureacracies springing up to meet this new demand for statistics and identification. The empire of TAT just gets bigger and bigger as it rolls on like a giant behemoth. In the meantime tourist boats are crashing and causing death and injury, tourists are getting mugged and scammed, death on the roads in public transport can be waiting just after the next rain. At least TAT will be able to quickly identify the victims.

How about an actual, real enforceable penalty for killing, raping, maiming, scamming, robbing or beating a tourist?

without pinning the blame on other foreigners, yes

If I recall, something similar was floated a few years back.

Or anyone, for that matter.

How much data needs to be 'collected' from us..?

Immigration (if we have a visa) will already have our home address..both in home-country & here, age, purpose for visit etc..Oh, and not forgetting

our occupation & how much we earn. (OK so we may mentally 'drift' a little when filling-in those two boxes on the Immigration card..555!)

If the rate of Tourist-related deaths & injuries keeps soaring as it is then how long before we see 'All inclusive' holiday packages where the holiday-makers are (safely) confined to the resort & it's grounds after dark..?

Also..If tourist numbers DO keep falling, & many Thai folk who rely tourism for their livelihood, be it hotel staff, or street-traders, noodle vendors etc, see themselves becoming in debt will this nation see it's crime-rate go up further..?

Yes. And just as any beaurocratic legislation is introduced in many if not most locations in the world it will not prevent the criminal element, the stupidity or the selfishness of individuals.

But it could provide the core elements expected by the World Beaurocratic Due Care But Zero Responsibility Advisory Committee in back room No. !@# after a decade of consultation/ collaberation with the Keep The World Stupid Action Committee in back room No. !@#a. After scrupulous vetting by the Human Social Repression & Disallusional Impact Division submitted to the United Nitwits for compulsory ratification approved by Starstien& Stripestien as Corporate Executives of World Bankstien and Imfstien and other invisible peoplestiens!

And naturally backed militarily by the Global Democratic Enforcement Division as announced variously but probably on .... Facebook !cheesy.gif cheesy.gif cheesy.gif
