They can only be placed on a sex offenders register if they already have convictions for pedophilia. Many of their activities go unnoticed for years before they get caught, others may still be operating waiting to be caught and some may never be caught. They said this man was sharing images online so there are loads more like him out there and guess this case is just one snow flake in a blizzard.

If someone invented an electrical device that bleeped when it detected a pedophile I think they would find them in the millions. It must be rampant and have no idea how this problem can be solved except as in this case they do something that bring themselves to the attention of the police.

A normal adult would not have a sexually explicit conversation with a child online or anywhere else. It is not against any laws for adults to converse with children of any ages but once it becomes sexual then that is considered grooming. If it is a setup by the police then the police would have to make it obvious of the pretend child`s age so that the adult is fully aware what he is dealing with otherwise the adult is not breaking any laws unless he`s stalking somebody online or generally being a sex pest.

This would not worry me because I would not be engaging in online conversations with children I don`t know anyway. So if you have concerns about such traps then I think you have a serious problem.
