PM holds Islamic banquet to mark the end of Ramadan

BANGKOK, 16 June 2016 (NNT)-Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has hosted a banquet to mark the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

Among those attending the banquet at Government House in Bangkok, were Sheikhul Arsis Pitakkhumpol, Cabinet members and members of the Central Islamic Council of Thailand as well as other Islamic officials and Thai Muslims.

The premier expressed his gratitude to those who came to the banquet which marked the end of the fasting period. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and it is observed by Muslims around the world.

It is the time for them to study the Holy Quran, begin fasting and refrain from all vices. General Prayut wished them prosperity and encouraged them to be part of a movement to restore peace in the country.

The Sheikhul thanked the Prime Minister and the government for the hospitality. He said Thailand has diverse cultural and religious groups, adding that they are all co-existing peacefully.

He also offered his encouragement to General Prayut and wished him the strength to continue to do his best for the country and Thai people.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Ramadan finish on or about July 5th? Isn't that why its called the holy "month"of Ramadan? June 6th till 16th is not even half way there.

How strange!

It ain't nowhere near finished yet!coffee1.gif

Ramadan just started. Was the banquet held in the evening or did the guests of honor all have to stand and watch the "PM" feed his face?

My guess is the article was written by a time traveler or perhaps more evidence that a lot of news is contrived rubbish written before an event even takes place.

Can somebody remind the PM that this is a Buddhist country !

It depends on the moon for the exact date but Ramadan is expected to end on the evening of July 6th with the first day of Eid on July 7th.

Lousy reporting. The dinner was probably an Iftar which is the meal at the end of the day at which Muslims break their daily fast during Ramadan.

"Yes", to the first sentence. And "most likely", to the second.

Will the Thai press stop embarrassing yourselves?cheesy.gifcoffee1.gif

No. They are in a fierce competition with the police!!

Is the prime minister Muslim? He talks like he is

Indeed strange for a supposedly Buddhist PM in a country where 95% or more of the population are Buddhist!

Just another fine piece by NNT.

If an apocalypse wiped out Thailand except for one NNT writer, on the following day he would issue the following news report: "Tourism Expected to Rise by Year End".

Best part they were served pork chops cause PM got great deal on them.

Where's my invite to the PMs Christmas dinner then?

There's only one true god.

MONEY.
