Legal pursuit of Phra Dhammajayo in compliance with the law, says Thai Govt

BANGKOK, 18 June 2016 (NNT) – The government has firmly assured all parties that the legal pursuit of the abbot of Wat Phra Dhammakaya is in line with the rule of law.

Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Suwaphan Tanyuvardhana said the Department of Special Investigation's (DSI) attempt to apprehend Phra Dhammajayo, the abbot of Wat Phra Dhammakaya, is not in violation of the legal framework, adding that if everyone complied with the law, the dispute would not be prolonged.

In the meantime, Deputy Prime Minister in charge of legal affairs Wissanu Krea-ngam declined to make any comment on Wat Phra Dhammakaya’s statement issued on Thursday that said it will not submit to authorities until true democracy has returned to Thailand.

The DSI has filed charges against supporters of Phra Dhammajayo for obstructing police doing their duty. Officials traveled to Wat Phra Dhammakaya on Thursday morning to search the temple and arrest the abbot but the operation failed in the face of peaceful resistance by the monk’s many supporters.

Everyone is subject to the rule of law.

What is the problem here ? I can't believe for one minute that the government is scared of enforcing the law on a citizen.

Monks of whatever rank are citizens aren't they ?

What has Phra Dhammajayo to be afraid of and hide that he resist every fair efforts to bring this matter

to a conclusion? shouldn't he set an example to his followers to obey the law and be a good citizen?

how long dose he want to drag this thing on and on and make a mockery of himself in the eye of the

Thai people and others? surly, as an elder and leader of the most powerful temple in Thailand, he

should know and do better......

Legal pursuit, what legal pursuit ?

So far it's been letters and verbal requests for him to give himself up, pretty please and he's made it clear he's not going to play so the authorities will continue doing what they're good at, just talking.

So we have a government in power right now which is unable or unwilling to enforce the very significant power that it wields.

In other countries, the rule of law applies verbatum. Surround the compound, heli with swat entering and arresting people.

Here, everyone gets away with murder. Pathetic. coffee1.gif

All too much for the abbott to give up

luxury pampered life ,

who can blame him when everything is given freely

he would only become DISENCHANTED with a normal life,

They have all the power they need but right now they're choosing not to use it.

Why is that ? I think they're wary of upsetting the public opinion right now. One day this will change, that will be a dark day for Thailand.

The way the monks have been see to have behaved over the last couple of months, kicking down the doors of this temple and arresting anybody who gets in the way would get a huge cheer from the majority of Thai's.

Maybe they should use Seal Team 6 at least they got a pair to do the job. Or could use rubber bullets this would also help the rubber farmers in the process. WIN WIN there. 55555

...in line with "rule-by-law".

Hopefully the "Authorities" are expending similar effort/resources to bring Vorayuth "Boss" Yoovidhya to justice?

Just kidding.

although I agree, there are some situations were enforcing the law becomes rather difficult especially when it involves large numbers of people who are intent on preventing such enforcement with a possible threat of violence and an escalation, although these people are peaceful at the moment we all know how things can turn rather nasty in Thailand and there are definitely certain factions and individuals that would like nothing better, on the face of it this just looks like a bunch of normal people having a peaceful protest, I suspect that behind the scenes there are some that have other plans

Yes, many examples like the PAD shutdown of the airports, and the PDRC shutdown of Bangkok. Best to just let them do their thing and do not enforce the law.

But if it's the other side just swoop in, fire off 100,000 rounds of ammo (including 3,000 high velocity sniper rounds).

Just use Sec. 44 to declare reconciliation. That should work.

A cell for thoughtful mediation is waiting..

Hand outs and religion are the tools of shinawatra.

Nah, PAD has their Dharma Army and PDRC has Issara.

You mean like the Waco siege? That went well!

If Phra Dhammajayo is innocent then he should have no problem with an investigation and perhaps an ensuing court appearance! His refusals and demands are those of a not so innocent person I think.

The mediators have no-one to mediate with.

Dhammachaiyo is hiding himself somewhere meditating on how to escape this holy mess he's in.

The Government are *terrified* of this Monk, and his followers/connections within the Thai Elite. I think that it's a bit more than being "wary of upsetting public opinion".

This leader and his framework line again. His frames are poorly fabricated at best. This so called Abbott has been given special treatment already. While murderers of a cripple were not even charged. You want to recheck your framework son. It's missing joists.

True democracy really ? I have not seen even a hint of it

now hang on here... I am persuaded that I may have been wrong... the said government 'seem' a little anxious here to prove their stance
