DPM Wisanu: Govt policies improve legislation, administrative and justice systems

BANGKOK, 20 June 2016, (NNT) - The current administration had enacted 172 laws over the past one year and eight months, with the objective of improving the nation's legislation, administrative and justice systems.

Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said that the laws address economic issues, international affairs, social equality, public welfare and national security.

He said the government had eliminated repetitious procedures in administrative systems and enhanced its overall efficiency. It had introduced a schedule for government agencies to review themselves every five years. The evaluation is meant to update the regulations of these units and prevent corruption.

The Deputy Prime Minister said, in terms of the justice system, court proceedings and hearings have been accelerated, adding that three new divisions have been set up by the Supreme Court covering human trafficking, the illegal drug trade and government officials' misconduct cases. He stated that the administration had also enacted the Justice Fund Act to provide financial aid to those who cannot afford lawyers' fees, bail, and other legal expenses.

Dr. Wissanu said the government is moving forward with police and education reforms, while diligently working on at least nine additional laws.

Enacting laws means nothing - to date this lot have proven that they are as broken and tolerant of corrupt practices as any recent earlier government, and if responsible forward-looking government for the benefit of all Thais is a yardstick, they're at the bottom of the list.

It would be nice to have laws that cannot be interpreted completely differently by 3 different government offices.

Clear and consistant laws are what this country needs.

And a police force that actually enforces them properly.

Unfortunately the justice system in Thailand will never change, the poor are always assumed to be guilty by the courts. The more people put in jail then the more the police earn. The so called justice system reeks of corruption and always will because it is a thriving and very prosperous business. From the police station to the jail, its all about money.

improving the nation's legislation, administrative and justice systems

And then destroying any imprvements with NCPO's heavy-handed use of Article 44 and the use of military courts for civilians.
