Health officials raid Simummuang market to check unsafe food

BANGKOK: -- Police from the Consumer Protection Police Division and health officials today raided the Talad Simummuang wholesale market in Lam Lukka district of Pathum Thani province following complaints by consumers that pork meat bought from this market was contaminated.

They complained that pork sellers used borax and some also used industrial colouring to make meat reddish.

Officials conducted random checks on 36 pork stalls at the market and found borax substance was used at pork meats sold by eight stalls.

One pork seller admitted of using borax mostly at minced pork meat, and lean pork meat.

He also said borax would be used mostly during hot season to prevent meat from faster spoiling.

Officials said seller will be subject to two-year imprisonment and a maximum fine of 20,000 baht if convicted of selling unsafe and contaminated food under the food and drug law.

Buyer was quoted saying: "I knew something was wrong when I farted bubbles". Is this a "trust me I'm Thai" moment?

To know when the meat is contaminated, you just have to wait 8-10 hours, Then when you start a spray painting apprenticeship on the toilet, you know the meat was no good.

The use of Borax and Formalin are rampant in Thai markets. Formalin is used particularly on seafood.

I learned long ago not to buy from those "quaint" markets or seafood buffets.

It's serious business.

What are we suppose to eat now a days? Everything is contaminated food to beer. Time to get back to stone-age harvesting own food stuff.

The time period is actually 6 hours. If you are ok after that chances are you wont have a problem

Borax, food colouring, formalin.........

Not to mention the colonies of parasites all over the meats

and vegetables....

Kitchen of the world

YUCK!!!!

It's not an exact time, It depends on your metabolism and what you ate and drank.
