Adhoc Officials Questioned Again

Featured Replies

Two detained Adhoc officials, Nai Vongda and Ny Sokha, who have been charged with bribery in relation to the Kem Sokha sex scandal, testified yesterday, saying they were not guilty of paying Mr. Sokha’s alleged mistress Khom Chandaraty to give false testimony. Mr. Sokha is the acting president of the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP).

Ms. Chandaraty, Mr. Sokha’s former hairdresser, sought assistance from NGO Adhoc after audio tapes of intimate conversations – allegedly between her and Mr. Sokha – were posted online. Initially she denied the female voice on the tapes was hers, but later admitted it was and claimed the NGO’s staff she had sought help from told her to lie during police questioning.

According to defense lawyer Lor Chunthy, neither of his clients were guilty of bribery and should have their charges dropped and be released immediately. “My clients were not hesitant and answered all the questions,” Mr. Chunthy said. “They were clearly not involved in bribery. As staff of a non-governmental organization, they offered help when she [Ms. Chandaraty] came to seek their assistance.
