BANGKOK: -- A swoop by police, army and land transport officials Wednesday at Future Park shopping centre in Rangsit, northern Bangkok, resulted in the arrest of 28 minibus drivers for operating illegal services.

The arrests both in front of the shopping centre and on the Rangsit - Nakorn Nayok Road came after numerous complaints from the public that drivers were operating illegally, driving badly and using foul language, reported Thairath.

The drivers face prison of up to five years for operating a public vehicle without a license or a fine of between 20,000 and 100,000 baht or both prison and fine.

Police said that in the event of trouble or accidents members of the public would have no course of redress because the vehicles were operating illegally.

Plenty of brown envelopes!

No more pressing issues or more serious crimes for the police to deal with? How about getting a few coppers to arrest 'The Boss' or has the envelope already been received and the contents distributed? No double-dipping?

Calling all drivers, in future remember to pay up on time !

We see police army making swoops catching wrong doers, that is good ok.

When there is something serious going on they are nowhere to be seen.

Catching the small law breakers is easy for them, but when it is hi-so or corrupt monks they are useless.

That's the thing now. They really do want to get rid of corruption and no more brown envelopes. Everything in a police station is settled in money and the army don't want that any more. The jails are filling with petty criminals who would normally have just thrown the bib a few shekles.

It has been going on in Rangsit daily for years and years. Well done to the army but why did it take so long to get this done?

'Police & Army swoop in & nab 28 minibuses at Rangsit'..that's 28 in one area alone..How many illegal minibuses are operating nationwide..?? (& howcome they're allowed to get away with this in such vast numbers for so long?)

Yes we all know the answer, it's mainly thanks to the same folk doing the bust today..TiT.

How can we tell if the mini van is licenced ?

What sticker should we look for.

Sounds familiar Colin, especially in the UK.

"Future Perk"...that's just priceless! cheesy.gif

How would someone define a specific area where people are being held for a "ransom" while "sitting down", possibly inside a minivan?

Future Perk? None at present, then?

Once again the Thai Army is screwing with the police income by forcing them to arrest the people paying the bribes to operate these mini vans.Go Army keep Fuxking with the BIB !

According to this they should have a yellow number plate with blue letters. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_Thailand

All public transport, Busses, Taxis, Songtauws and Minivans must have yellow license plates with black letters.
