Interior Ministry calls for drafting of provincial regulations for floating lanterns and rockets



BANGKOK, 23 June 2016 (NNT) – The Ministry of Interior has ordered all provincial authorities strictly control the use of floating lanterns and homemade rockets following an order from the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).

Permanent Secretary for Interior Krisada Boonrach revealed that his ministry has instructed al provinces issue a provincial level declaration setting criteria for the use of floating lanterns and homemade rockets. Each province’s declaration is to be decided by its Provincial Council and Provincial Cultural Assembly in the interest of respecting local traditions. Nonetheless, the regulations must satisfy NCPO guidelines drafted for the safety of citizens from flammable items such as fireworks and floating lanterns.

The regulations should determine what time such items can be used, their type and size and the amount that can be used at any one time. Location and occasion of the items will also be regulated and security measures will be set as a condition for their usage.

All of the criteria are to be compiled and announced in the Royal Gazette so that they can be supported by law. All district chiefs and offices must be briefed on the regulations and enforce their rules while also publicizing them to locals.

As some of my comments may have indicated, if someone towed all Thais out to sea and then sunk the boat, I wouldn't much care, It isn't that I dislike them, it's just that I don't care about them, they have very little impact upon me and have nothing to teach me or benefit me. I used to allow them to influence me, but I didn't care very much for the results and I didn't think it benefited me much, though I think that also applies to some of the foreigners I have come into close contact with in Thailand. At their deepest levels. all people are pretty much the same once you get beneath the cultural mask they wear.

I get on with Thais one-on-one OK, when I need to, I'm not a complete misanthropist, but in general I share nothing in common with them, so they don't matter much to me. I have no need to be liked loved by them, I am indifferent to both and I don't rely for my security on their social conventions as they do.

What I do believe is that they have rights, and this country has systematically stolen those rights over many decades, perhaps even centuries. That I resent, and that is why I support democracy and have not joined the ranks of fascists.

You obviously don't realize that when I moved to work in Thailand in 1985 it was a country with nearly 70% poverty. 30 years late it has a huge $400 billion economy with around 10% poverty. I've witnessed this amazing turnaround but one negative of globalization is people like you coming here easily and spouting you racial hatred and criticizing nearly everything about the country. I generally hate saying this but why don't you just go home?
