Doctor for ongoing back issue/MRI

Featured Replies

Wondering if anyone can help me. I'm thinking of heading up to BKK next week to see a doctor about my lower back and possibly having an MRI done to see what's going on.

It first started about 3 years ago when doing deadlifts. (which I've never done since) Basically my lower back will lock up completely which is pretty debilitating. I end up bent over and can't straight up.

One time I was at a customers house and my back gave out completely, I ended up on the floor in agony for 5 minutes and then managed to walk to the car and just get home. Spent a week in bed.

This originally would happen a few times a year and now unfortunately it's getting to the point of happening once or twice a month. It stops me from doing things for days until the inflammation goes down and is quite depressing.

There's a local chiropractor I see here, who free's up my SI joints which tend to lock up. He's told me not to worry too much, it's not really that bad.

I'm 39 and active. I lift weights four times a week, jog every other morning and practice Muay Thai/BJJ the other mornings. I get massages regularly.

My work involves sitting a lot which triggers it, however last year I bought a standing desk. So now I keep sitting down to a minimum (driving, etc) I've also been through multiple mattresses

I'm just wondering if anyone can recommend a specialist up in Bangkok?

Stop the weights, Muay Tai and jogging, very bad for a weak/damaged back.

I stopped before for 3 months and it was worse.

Doing these exercises lightly helps keep things loose.

Obviously someone with no experience lifting weight. You can actually strengthen your back when lifting weight and skipping exercises that endanger the back. Your blanket reply is quite ignorant.

I have had a bad back.. hard to sleep on my back.. needed a soft mattress and even then it hurt. I started doing deadlifts to strengthen my lower back and since then I can sleep on harder mattresses and walk much further without having any back problems.

The secret is good form and knowing what your doing.

Dr. Wicharn at the BNH Hospital spine center. https://www.bnhhospital.com/en/find_doctor/detail/256

BNH has what is reputed to be a very good physio therapy dept, and you may need PT, but as it sounds like you don't live in Bangkok, if PT is recommended might need to learn to do it on your own or have tyhem write out what is required so that you can seek it locally.

If -- and only if -- the result rules out serious spinal problem (i.e. if it is just muscles/ligaments that are the problem) simple yoga works wonders - just a few sun salutations daily will really help stretch things out and strengthen lower back. but first have the consultation as these might be inadvisable if there is a spinal problem.

Perfect. Thank you. Just the reply I was looking for!
