There seems to be a policy to open new bars until there is One Bar For Every Visitor.

This will be achieved quite soon in the low season although customers may be forced to share with a couple of other people during the high season.

When you see a piece of empty land anywhere between The Dolphin Circle and Bali Hai you can relax in the knowledge that soon there will be yet more bars to service you, should you need it.

Many would say that 'you can't have too many beer bars'. :D (apart from anyone daft enough to try and make a profit). :D

But surely Pattaya would be greatly improved if we each had our own personal beer bar with our own six favourite girls. A couple of newbies added every week who could replace anyone who failed to light our fire anymore. :o

If you think I am joking just walk down Soi 2, 3, etc. etc....have a look at them all.

The new bar complexs your talking about are just scams the only person who makes money is the landlord.

My Goodness, how dare you insinuate that the fine upstanding Thai Citizens of Pattay would take advantage of the Gulable Tourists who desperately want to stay in the land of Smiles..

We all know Pattaya needs a heap more beer bars.. :o:D

All the hot girls should be jammed together on walking street for me and the "tourists" and all the slappers on Soi Buakaow for the rest of you. The plain janes could man the other bars everywhere else.

Oh, yeah, they pretty much do. :o

Word is that pretty soon all the go-gos and girl bars are going to be moved out of the sois along beach road to accomodate huge family friendly resorts.

That'll push most of the action back out to Buakaow.

Soi Buakaow is the best place to drink these days.

Less in your face tactics, less tourists, less rip offs.

More cheap charlies, more singha vest wearers. :o

Only some of the action IMO, it will never be as popular as Walking st. :D

Funny enough I heard the same thing roughly 5yrs ago!! :o

Either you have a conduit to City Hall or this can be dismissed as bar-room chatter.

Who funds all these beer bars?

My guess is that bargirls scam their "boyfriends" for money to open them. I've never seen so many unprofitable businesses flourish in such a small area.

At times it would seem there is at least one restaurant per customer too.

PS. A friend of mine has recently opened a new gogo bar in Soi Buakhao near the Tuesday/Friday market end. It's called "Paradise agogo" and another will soon be open right next door to Witherspoons in a building that was gutted by fire. I'm not sure of the name yet, but it won't be long before it's open.

Well I did hear about it in a bar. So, surely, it's gospel.

Might have to agree with Dave on the cheap charlies. Saw a guy walk up to some girls who were sitting out the front of a bar I was in last night. He molested one of the girls for 20 minutes, bought a soda water and no lady drink and left.

A 20 minute feel up and a drink for 35 baht .... cheaper than cambodia in the 90s.

Same same 15 years ago. No doubt it will happen, but it will be about the same time as they demolish all those illegal beach side buildings down walking street.

"many unprofitable businesses flourish " - isn't that an oxymoron?

I don't know, but it sure is true in Thailand! :o

"true in Thailand" - there's another one!

I had to make up an expression that explained how 800 plus beer bars could exist with one customer each...and restaurants not far behind.

I think proliferate would be what you meant to say.

Sorry for picking nits :o

It's ok, but I like my original expression and it was stated as intended. It was intended to offer subtle satirical humour, in that the businesses here that "flourish" are usually sponsored businesses with cash flow, but not in the usual business sense.

"flourish" has an interpretation: thrive.

"proliferate": To increase or spread at a rapid rate.

I know its a bit of a long shot but its not a tiny thai bird who's half scouse (does that make sense?), opening it with a falang? Got chatting to one last month who's opening a bar on Soi Bukhaow but was unsure of the name of it...
