Government officials urged to adhere to 4 principles for performance

BANGKOK, Nov 15, (TNA) - Deputy Prime Minister and Industry Minister Kosit Panpiemras on Wednesday suggested government officials adhere to four principles--transparency, fair treatment, saving, and efficiency--for their duty performance.

Presiding over the opening ceremony of a Civil Service Commission office ceremony honouring His Majesty the King's managerial capability to develop the Thai bureaucratic system, he called on government officials to put the King's advice given in 2000 in practice for the sake of the common interests of all Thais.

He said the current government had applied His Majesty the King's sufficiency economy philosophy into practice in performing its duties.

So, Mr. Kosit called on government officials to be faithful bureaucrats and adhere to the four principles in performing their duties in an honest and diligent manner.

Also, the civil servants--at whatever level--should adjust themselves to globalisation and join with the private sector in working to boost Thailand's international competitiveness.

Mr. Kosit said the government would attempt to develop a performance evaluation mechanism with the private sector based on the sufficiency economy principle.

Prime Minister's Office to push morality policy forward to become a national agenda

Khunying Thipawadi Meksawan (ทิพาวดี เมฆสวรรค์), the Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, yesterday had a meeting on the policies relating to morality, good governance, and corruption prevention. The meeting was joined by the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, the Ministry of Justice, and scholars.

Khunying Thipawadi said the meeting members focused on the progress of the operation before the plan will be integrated. In addition, the members pushed the morality policy forward so it would become a national agenda. Three sectors, namely the political, private and public sectors, will work together in arranging the short-term and long-term plans accordingly and specifying their clear campaigns, which will be presented in another meeting next week.

The short-term plan will be divided into three categories, consisting of the demand for politicians to be a good example in performing their duties transparently, the clear enforcement of the law, and the cultural focus on the people in the grass-root level in relations to vote-buying activities.
