Dr Wisanu assures peace-keeping centres are meant to support enforcement of referendum law

BANGKOK: -- Deputy Prime Minister Wisanu Kruea-ngarm reaffirmed on Monday that the establishment of peace-keeping centres across the country was aimed to support implementation of the Referendum Act and was not intended to target probable cheats in the referendum.

He maintained that the centres were not intended to intimidate or to suppress people who share different opinions from the government’s regarding the referendum or the draft constitution.

The deputy prime minister said that the officials in charge of security might have received intelligence report about possible unrest or public disruptions during the leadup to the referendum or during the referendum, hence the need for the peace-keeping centres.

Peace-keeping centres at provincial and district levels have been set up at all provinces and districts as of July 1. They will be operating until after the referendum.

Dr Wisanu admitted that he was not aware of the report that there were some mistakes in the copies of draft charter published at the order of the Election Commission. But he said he was confident that authorities concerned would be able to communicate with the people and to inform them about the gist of the draft charter before the referendum.

Mistakes at the printers, never mind the EC will inform the public "about the gist of the draft charter".

August 7th, the day for people to make an informed choice. My arse, they will be no more informed (factually) than UK voters were in the Brexit vote.

First the EC was to send a copy of the unabridged charter to 80% of the Thai households.

Then that was changed to an abridged copy to 50%.

Then that was downgraded to pamphlets.

Now its a "gist." An essence.

What's next, a one word message - YES ?

Sizing this guy up he has the kind of face you can believe in. Love the phrase "peace keeping centres"

So there are mistakes in the printing of the draft charter which as far as I know no public has seen yet. Only a month before the vote. Who can help thailand?
