NLA's Pornpetch rejects relaxation of controls on political activities during referendum

BANGKOK, 7 July 2016 (NNT) – The President of the National Legislative Assembly disagrees with calls for the relaxation of legal controls over political parties ahead of and during the public referendum.

NLA President Pornpetch Wichitcholchai said that he did not have prior notice of a move by a group of academics, who asked the Supreme Administrative Court to revoke an announcement by the Election Commission, which states that people’s expression of opinions about the referendum should be in tandem with the code of law.

As such, he cannot comment on the issue yet.

Concerning the National Reform Steering Assembly’s call for the National Council for Peace and Order to amend its order on the control of political parties and their activities, Mr. Pornpetch said that such a change is not justified just yet.

The NLA President explained that the NCPO is trying to ensure peace and order in society, while encouraging the public to share their genuine opinions during the run-up to the public referendum on August 7.

When asked if such a relaxation should be made possible after the referendum process is concluded, Mr. Pornpetch said that suggestion is up to the NCPO to consider.

History teach us all leaders who lead by fear never end well. We'll see this time...............

Certainly the NLA couldn't afford to have discontent within the ranks of the people ,and why should they , that would show that Prayut's Happiness for the people has fallen on deaf ears ( has Around my way they all use streaming now ) and of course people who are discontented or semi discontent are very likely to vote no , so why have a discussion , why have opponents pick the charter amendments to pieces when the Junta has done such a superb job of trying to rig the constitution in their favour.....................coffee1.gif .

Every morning wear I live, over the loud speaker the message go out and vote for the referendum.

Junta huggers, justify to us poor uninformed members of TVF and any free thinking person just how and why the few "good people" have the right to dictate why the rest of the country are forbidden to voice their opinion of this referendum...

Thailand is supposed to mean land of the free, that's a laugh, should be land of the free only if your rich or connected.

... the public to share their genuine opinion ... ?

OK, go ahead if you are suicidal.

The law will be relaxed about 2 minutes before polls close.

Rubber Stamp Politician says what?

He's president of the NLA, and he cannot comment yet - seems he hasn't been told what to say!
