Former lottery office chief fails to clear doubt: Udom

BANGKOK: -- Police Maj-General Surasit Sangkhapong, former director of the Government Lottery Office (GLO), failed to clarify some doubts raised by the Assets Examination Committee (AEC) about the two and three-digit lotteries, AEC member Udom Fuangfoong said Thursday.

An investigating panel had questioned Surasit about the GLO lottery policies under the government of deposed premier Thaksin Shinawatra, who was unable to give clear answers, he said.

However, the AEC would not reveal details of what Surasit said to the panel, Udom added.

The AEC is investigating whether the GLO under Surasit had used revenues for political campaigns of the Thai Rak Thai party.

Indeed ! But you forgot that meanwhile, a sub comittee from the Agriculture Ministry has been created and should report its own investigation on the panel, to the CEA, subsidiary of the EAC, affiliated to the Culture Ministry.

The whole process should take only 4 years.

PM refuses to talk about lottery issue

Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont refuses to discuss the lottery issue after the Council State of Thailand has a resolution that it is not in line with the Government Lottery Office Act.

Gen. Surayud stated that Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pridiyathorn Devakula can provide the facts and details about the Council State of Thailand’s resolution on the lottery as he is responsible in finding the solution to this problem. The Prime Minister said he could not say whether the government will continue the lottery at this time because it is a legal matter.

He added that he is not a lawyer nor a banker, so it would be better for other experts to provide the answer on the lottery issue.
