Street Vendors, Beggars and Homeless Targeted in Pattaya City Cleanup

PATTAYA: -- A meeting was held at Pattaya City Hall on July 7, chaired by Mr. Sethaphol Boonsawad, to discuss organisation and discipline at Pattaya Beach.

On the agenda were new rules to control street vendors, kitchen side-car motorcycles, the homeless and beggars along the length of Beach Road and Walking Street.

The meeting concluded that the current ‘unorganised chaos’ is annoying to tourists and harms Pattaya’s image and so affects the tourist trade. Which is all that matters.

Good - if they can do it.

Around 2 or 3am on Walking Street and Marine Plaza there are more child beggars than patrons weaving their way home.

...annoying to tourists and harms Pattaya’s image and so affects the tourist trade. Which is all that matters.

What do you call those things you put on horses so they can't see what is going besides them? Oh yes, blinders/blinkers...someone must of bought a few for the council members.

Funny that double parking of buses big and small did not make the agenda

Well it's progress. A few years ago these kids would have been tucked up in bed with visiting paedos.

It has taken about 50 years (Vietnam R&R village) for Pattaya to get into this condition.

Recon it will be another 50 years to get out of this condition?

After living some years in Thailand and seeing which conditions of living are behind these children beggars and other beggars, I can tell you the vast majority of them is begging because their family decided against hard work to get out of poverty.

"who not have wants to have" as it was explained to me.

yet many businesses would be happy to pay in excess of 20.000 baht a month for loyal, honest, hard working and skilled staff. go figure.

so yes, I think it is a good thing the government wants them taken off the streets.

What about all the vendors on public land on the steps outside Royal Garden now ?

And the alcohol van / 20 - 30 seats / tables outside Royal Garden, again on public land.

Footway is blocked.

Entrance on Beach Rd to Beer Garden blocked too, with food vendors.

Somehow all of this will not be policed.

I drove down Beach Rd Wednesday night and can report the area was completely cleaned up of street vendors, kitchen side-car motorcycles, the homeless and beggars, and also katoeys and ladies of the night. So they have been successful! There was also a torrential rainstorm.

How often have we heard this drivel?

The only people I give money to are the disabled ie no legs or blind. Usually at the market here.

And also all these moto taxis blocking just about every corner. And all these taxi and minivan camps on the Sois making one sorry mess..

Yes, they cause traffic movement problems, but so do food-carts, baht buses that stop where they like, coaches doing similar. Don't expect to drive Beach Rd and move along smoothly, nor 2nd Rd, nor 3rd Rd, nor Klang, nor Tai etc etc.

Leave the hard working food vendors.who do not pester & annoy or even threaten & in some cases assault tourists like the watch sellers who are mainly muslim
