Asus AC68U router - compatibe 3G/4G modems in Thailand?

I have an Asus AC68U router with TOT ADSL (soon fiber). The ADSL connection is decent, but does have some downtime - maybe 2-3 hrs / week. I know the AC68U can use a 3G/4G modem for a backup connection. While not extremely important, this can matter occasionally enough that I'd like to explore the possibility of setting up a 3G/4G backup connection.

Which 3G/4G modem should I buy? I have very good AIS 4G coverage where I live while Dtac and True only provide weak signals.

I'm happy with AIS 3G/4G, just not sure which 3G/4G modem I should buy to be sure it'll work with my router and where to buy it.

Asus only list two very old modems for Thailand, Huawei E169 and E176, neither of which has 4G.

It would seem unlikely that newer modems wouldn't work, so... Any experience/opinions?

I have a few of the modems on the list, but not in the country at the mo.

I ended up ordering a ZTE MF821 from Lazada. It's set up and working, but I realised (duh) that I can't access the 3G/4G modem interface through my router, so I can't subsribe to data packages, see my data usage etc...

I guess what I'll have to do is pop the 3G/4G modem SIM in my phone, register it for the AIS eService and then return the SIM to the modem. Then run usage monitoring, data package subscriptions, top-ups etc. through the AIS eService website.
