Armed Robbers Arrested

Featured Replies

Three heavily armed people suspected of armed robbery were arrested yesterday by provincial penal police in connection with a robbery last month. The incident, in which a husband and wife were tied to a pillar and held at gunpoint in their Kachoun commune home, happened on June 30 in Ratanakiri province’s Voeun Sai district.

District police chief Major Toeu Nouthang identified the three suspects as Tram Kriya, 34, Ny Yousok, 29, and Kray Chroan, 25. Ms. Chroan, a member of the Kroeung ethnic minority, is the wife of the man suspected of orchestrating the robbery, Pich Phally, who is still at large. Maj. Nouthang said that during yesterday’s arrests, an AK-47, 26 AK-47 rounds, one pistol, nine pistol rounds and a large amount of money and jewelry from last month’s robbery were seized from Mr. Phally’s Team Krom village home in Phnom Kok commune, where the suspects were hiding.

Mr. Kriya, Mr. Yousok and Mr. Phally are suspected of having stolen $3,000 in cash and jewelry from victims Nguven Vangkean, 30, and his wife Touch Sreynich, 24. The three allegedly made off with gold necklaces, platinum bracelets and gold rings weighing a total of six chi (about 30 grams), 600,000 riel, one million Dong and 20 boxes of cigarettes. Ms. Chroan is suspected of being an accomplice to the crime.
