BANGKOK, 14 July 2016 (NNT) – The National Reform Steering Assembly has reported on the progress of a case related to unfair fees charged by the country’s mobile service operators.


Mr. Charnchai Issarasenarak, Deputy Chairman of the NRSA’s subcommittee tasked with the study of anti-corruption measures and mechanisms, gave the report on the investigation into all three major mobile service operators, AIS, DTAC and True, which have been accused of collecting excess service fees in violation of the law.

Mr. Charnchai said the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC) had invited representatives of all three companies to state their case. The telecommunications regulator concluded that the three mobile service operators had indeed been overcharging their subscribers.

The NRSA member added that the NBTC has promised to ensure that all three service providers will quickly reimburse the excess charges to all affected customers.

Mr. Charnchai went on to say that the subcommittee will continue checking on the progress of this action every seven days.

It's not only the overcharging that should be looked into.

The worst part (for me) is when the automatically renew your "add-on" package without asking permission. Example; subscribe to an 1 day internet package at 9am and they will automatically renew it at 9.01am the next day without warning. And usually with a more expensive package instead. All of a sudden, you will find yourself with 0baht on your phone. That method should be made illegal.

Something wrong,Sherlock,,,I can use my Wifi on my phone to connect to my Internet modem at anytime 24/7 ,,,,That has nothing to do with the phone service provider ,,,it's from you're phone to the modem and back,,you Don't use your provider,,

What annoys me is when you have a problem and call these companies up, they then make you wait 15 mins and charge you for the call!!

Scratching away at the surface.

Some years ago a friend of a friend mentioned to me that AIS is raking in millions per month by rorting the network-to-network mechanism. This is how it works:

If (say) an AIS customer brings a friend whose number happens to be on the DTAC network, a message is passed from the DTAC network to the AIS network to confirm that the network connection is being attempted and triggering a charge to the originating subscriber. The weight should work is that this charge should be cancelled if the connection fails for some reason (for example if nobody answers). This cancellation however was never passed to AIS. Come-settling up time between DTAC and AIS, only connected into-network calls were charged.

End result? The originating subscriber was charged for the call whether connected or not, and AIS gratefully pocketed the fraudulent charge. It does appear that AIS management were fully aware that fraudulent charges were being made and not refunded.

Disclaimer. I don't know if this problem was correctly reported to the friend of a friend I mentioned, and I don't know, if the charging error was fixed. It may have been, and AIS may well be the most honest telephone company in the world. So, if anything I've said is libellous or inaccurate, it's got nuffing to do with me guv.

well there is a deeper cell phone opperator racket going on here.

for example, the older people who have subscribed for free music ring tones are being billed monthly for it. it was only free for the first month. and some even DL 3-10 different ones. and are being secretly billed for them... every month. .. to this day.

another one... is fairly obvious. .. how come the only company that didnt bid.... has the BEST SERVICE over the company that WON THE BID? its as if there are "secret" packages for "special People" like 100b for 4 gig. of 4g =)
