Thai and Malaysian military officers discuss joint protection of common border area

SONGKHLA, 15 July 2016 (NNT) – Thai and Malaysian military officers attended a meeting to discuss cooperation in protecting the shored border and prepare a joint military exercise to enhance interoperability.

Fifth Infantry Regiment Commander Col Niphon Chanthana welcomed Malaysia’s 6th Infantry Brigade Commander Sulkarnai Bin Amad on his visit after officially taking his office. The two parties will attend a meeting to find ways to cooperate to maintain security along the common border of Thailand and Malaysia.

The relations between Thailand and Malaysia are close at all levels, following the many activities held in the past, especially preparations for the Land Exercise Thamal operation, taking place between July 18-28, 2016, which will help enhance the capability of the military units to protect the shared border areas, said the colonel said.

The exercise will include theoretical and field operations at the Thailand-Malaysia border in Sadao, Songkhla, and a joint patrol operation to enhance border security and suppress illegal activities and other threats in the area.

The Thailand-Malaysia Land Exercise Thamal is a regular military exercise held three times a year; the upcoming exercise being the second in 2016.

So, when the heat's on in Thailand, we'll move the migrant slave camps over to Malaysia, and vice versa?

Sounds suspiciously like they're negotiating a profit sharing agreement.

About time there was some discussion.
