PM stresses on IT cooperation with neighboring countries to cope with terrorist threats

ULAN BATOR, 16 July 2016 (NNT) – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has stressed on the importance of IT cooperation between Thailand with its neighboring countries to counter global and regional terrorist threats.

In his speech during the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) in Ulan Bator, Mongolia, the Thai premier said the implementation of IT systems are being required to help counter the threats of terrorism. Military measures alone may not be sufficient anymore, he said.

He said the Thai government is in process of procuring face and fingerprint scanners to assist immigration measures at airports and to network the airports with each other. He said that the procurement process must proceed with transparency.

He added that the agenda of upgrading Thailand’s immigration and customs systems are yet to be taken into account by the Airports of Thailand, the military and the police to efficiently solve terrorism issues while cooperation with the neighboring countries would also be significant.
