ULAN BATOR, 16 July 2016 (NNT) – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has stressed on the importance of IT cooperation between Thailand with its neighboring countries to counter global and regional terrorist threats.

In his speech during the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) in Ulan Bator, Mongolia, the Thai premier said the implementation of IT systems are being required to help counter the threats of terrorism. Military measures alone may not be sufficient anymore, he said.

He said the Thai government is in process of procuring face and fingerprint scanners to assist immigration measures at airports and to network the airports with each other. He said that the procurement process must proceed with transparency.

He added that the agenda of upgrading Thailand’s immigration and customs systems are yet to be taken into account by the Airports of Thailand, the military and the police to efficiently solve terrorism issues while cooperation with the neighboring countries would also be significant.

I bet you the upper echelons of AoT, the Army and the RTP are gleefully wringing their hands together at the thought of how many 5000 baht hard drives they will need to purchase... for 800,000 baht a piece!

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha stressed.

Military measures alone may not be sufficient [because] the procurement process must proceed with transparency.

He added that the agenda of upgrading Thailand are yet to be taken into account by the military and the police.

Cooperation with the neighboring countries would also be [a] significant process.

Cut and paste to make a more meaningful story.

inter country cooperation is paramount in efforts

to contain the threat of terrorism.one of the quickest ways

is the exchange of information. IT is an appropriate medium of exchange

of such information.

the significant point is as to how efficiently the information is

analysed and acted upon.

It is a valid point he is making.

However, as long as any country has a porous border, broken by checkpoints who apply their own rules, it doesn't really matter how much additional security measures you deploy at the airports at the end of the day.
