Fine Arts Department surveys historical sites nationwide to tackle encroachment

BANGKOK, 25 July 2016 (NNT) - The Fine Arts Department has been trying solve encroachments at historical sites nationwide, while up to 1,000 unregistered historical sites are being surveyed to prevent future encroachments.

Culture Minister Weera Rojphotchanarat disclosed that he has assigned the Office of Archaeology to solve the issue of unwanted encroachment at archaeological sites nationwide, with most of the sites located at moats and city walls where the homeless reside.

The 15 Offices of Archaeology have been instructed to conduct a survey on the encroached historical sites and measure the area of over 1,000 unregistered historical sites.

The department will then consult with relevant agencies to clearly determine the boundaries and effectively prevent future encroachments from happening.
