SONGKHLA, 24 July 2016 (NNT) – Deputy Education Minister Gen. Surachet Chaiwong recently traveled to the southern province of Songkhla to present scholarships to children affected by the ongoing unrest in the far South.

Gen Surachet handed scholarships to 565 students in Songkhla, Pattani, Narathiwat and Yala. The recipients are children of people killed or injured in insurgency situations. During his speech, the deputy Education Minister stressed the government’s intention is to ease the difficulties faced by the victims’ families.

Mr. Chaiyos Imsuwan, deputy permanent secretary of the Education Ministry said the project is intended to give students in the southern border provinces the opportunity to continue their studies and improve the well-being of affected families and individuals. Scholarship recipients range from primary to college students. The project, started in 2005, has assisted more than 6,500 students.
