Story by Albert Jack

PATTAYA: -- On the afternoon of July 25 the police were called to Soi 17/1, Naklua, Banglamung where local residents had apprehended, and restrained, a drunk man welding a knife.

A house owner on Moo 6, Soi 17, Mr Chairat Rakthong, reported that somebody told him a man was in his kitchen and so went to investigate. He found the door was locked and so used his spare key to open it.

There he was confronted by twenty-six-year-old Mr Montien Somwaeng who was holding a knife. It was also later revealed that he was holding a bag full of underwear in his other hand. He was very drunk and not making any sense and so Mr Rakthong was able to disarm him and take him outside where neighbors restrained the intruder.

...since when is a drunk..... 'a stoner'....???

...jeez.....

One of our fellow TVFers recently posted that the Thai word for drunk and stoned is the same.

I do not know.

It is in general terms but you would assume the reporter would know the difference.

Why would you assume that? The report is in a Thai newspaper, written by a Thai (and then translated into English) and one word describes both situations. There is no difference in the Thai language.

Since the time when being drunk has not uncommonly been referred to as being stoned.

Jeez.

Since when has a sentence needed so many full stops? And question marks?
