How much do Apartments and Condos have to pay for wifi?

Checking out apartments with a friend the other day got me thinking about how much an apartment or condo owner or even a hotel has to pay for wifi access.

Is the apartment building. management charged a flat fee for unlimited users or do the apartment management have to pay a fee for each apartment that signs up?

What would the apartment building be paying for wifi access for an entire building?

Most apartments we looked at had an extra for wifi per month....400 or 500

Just curiosity

This depends on the condo/appartment.

Some appartement they have one Internet access which they use and give acces by wifi to all the users who pay monthly to the owner, some condos even have included some decent WiFi Internet already in the monthly costs. Other condos have a separate Internet for every condo.

If you have a shared Internet with many other users, then It could happen that your speed is horrible, because another user  downloads too many movies or other stuff. If you have your own, at least you have less problems, but in most cases should be more expensive than a shared one. But I guess there are some owner who maybe even ask more for a shared one than they have to pay! to increas their profit.

The costs of Internet also depends on the speed. Last time I checked it was about 599 baht for decent internet including some TV channels :).

The internet connection will probably be using a telephone landline and an ADSL modem. The costs depends of the speed of this connection and sometimes also on the amount of data transferred. An ADSL modem can have a builtin wifi access point or you can use a separate wifi router. Almost all have a default that allows a maximum of 253 devices to connect over wifi. A device gets a temporary lease for an local IP number.

At busy places the limit of 253 devices is quickly reached and you have to wait for a wifi connection  until the IP lease of an inactive device times out or the wifi modem is reset by a power off/on.

It depends on the condo management if they take care of the internet connection and wifi or that condo owners have their own connection and wifi modem. The latter will give you a more reliable internet connection but you pay about 600 baht a month.

The setup of a wifi infrastructure for a condo building or big hotel can be complicated if it is done professionally.
