By courtesy of Expressway Authority of Thailand (ETA) and Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company (BEM), the new 16.7 kilometre long expressway was open today (Monday) to motorists for free trial until midnight of Wednesday August 17.

But since most motorists were not aware of the opening of the new expressway, the Si Rat-Outer Ring Road, express way and details of its connections with the other roads due to little publicity, traffic on the expressway today was light.

The route starts from Bangkok suburban ringroad and runs parallel to the old southern railroad across the Chao Phraya river near Rama VII bridge, ending at Bangsue where it connects with Srirath expressway at Mor Chit 2 bus terminal.

The new expressway will be officially open to traffic on August 22. Toll fees are 50 baht for four wheelers,75 baht for 6-10 wheelers and 110 baht for vehicles with more than ten wheels.

One motorist who used the expressway today said it would help cut short his travelling time substantially because he will not need to drive through Ratchadamnoen avenue which is often jammed from Kanchanapisek road.
