As flood water in the municipal area of Nan province started to steadily recede on Tuesday, flood situation in Wiang Sa district has turned more critical with water level steadily increasing.

Over 1,000 houses in Wiang Sa district have been flooded with different degrees of damages. Throughout Monday night, officials kept announcing to warn residents to move their valuables to higher ground.

Meanwhile, officials and residents help guard a two-metre high sandbagged flood barrier erected in Tambon Wiang Sa for fear that it might collapse from the force of the surging flood water.

Water pumps have been running throughout the night to pump water out.

Irrigation officials in Nan anticipated that water level this afternoon would increase and people living in low-lying areas were told to get ready for evacuation to safer places.

Residents in five communities in Nan namely Phumin, Tha Lee, Phraya Phu, Pong Payom and Ming Muang have been with electricity since Monday night until today.

The current flood in Nan was described as the worst in ten years. But the plus side of the flood is that all the runoff will finally flow into the Sirikit dam in Uttradit province which is only 23 percent full.
