Cheaper Imports???

The 52 week high for GBP/THB is 56 THB. Currently it is around 45THB, thanks mainly to the Brexit vote.

Much has been said on the news sites about UK exporters benefiting from the lower £ as their goods will be cheaper in foreign currencies.

That said, can we expect cheaper British goods on sale here in Thailand? Looking around the supermarket shelves, I see no reduction in the price of British food items at all. Absorbed into extra profit for whom?

So much for the advantage UK exporters will have.

Regardless of what country you live in the motivator is always going to be competition, farang in Thailand is somewhat a niche market. Only you would know what the competition is like where you live, do not hold your breath. The customer is least likely to benefit IMO, just see it as a gift to your retailer for being in business and selling you western foods in SEA.

Yes competition is the thing that drives prices down. There are not many shops importing stuff so they just keep the difference.. but when things get more expensive they charge.

This is not as bad as in the USA where the price of an epi pen (something you need to safe your life) went up from 145$ to 600$ in a few year. While the cost of producing the pen a few $ stayed the same. (the main competitor was forced a recall and that left a monopoly for just one company that they exploited)

So we can moan about Thailand its worse in the US where they put the knife at your throat for things that can safe your life pay it or die. At least we can go for local products here in Thailand. But your right its bad when big businesses take advantage of consumers.. no matter where they are.
