Pol Gen Chakthip: No suspects in bomb attacks held in police custody yet

BANGKOK: -- The national police chief has confirmed that police have not detained any suspects responsible for a spate of bomb and arson in seven southern provinces last week.

Pol Gen Chakthip Chaichinda said on Thursday that he had not been informed by the military about a report that 15 suspects have been held in military custody allegedly in connection with the bomb and arson attacks and another report that the military would seek warrants from the court for the arrest of an addition of 17 suspects.

But he said that one of his deputies, Pol Gen Sivara Rangseepromphan, was in charge of bomb and arson cases.

As for the Hua Hin bomb attacks in which two were killed and several more injured, Pol Gen Chakthip disclosed that the CCTV system at the famous resort town managed to capture the images of three suspects quite clearly.

However, he said he had instructed the investigators concerned to be cautious and not to make arrest quickly until there are sufficient evidences against them.

Regarding a suspect, Muhamad Lorsadee Panho, who was held in police custody in Krabi province for questioning on security-related charges in accordance with an arrest warrant issued by Pattani provincial court, the police chief said that information extracted from the suspect was very useful for the probe into recent bomb attacks

Voicing his person view, Pol Gen Chakthip said he believes the attacks were not perpetrated by southern militants to expand their turf although the bombs used in the attacks were similar to the type of bombs that exploded in several spots in Bangkok 10 years ago.

This is typical, the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.  It seems there are a lot of conflicting stories in the news on any event that takes place here.  You can read the same story three different places and have three different stories.

Well, at least he's acknowledging they're performing up to the same high standard they usually exhibit in such cases.

Same result could be said for most of the wanted suspects in the Erawan bombing case except for the two already in custody. Progress on finding and detaining any of those folks who supposedly fled abroad now a year later???

Actually, I think it is even worse!

The right hand does not know, what the right arm is doing...

Oops butterfingers as another report says the military were to hand over 17 suspects,   looks like 2 have been dropped somewhere.

Saw a report elsewhere that two had previously been released (policemen from Nong Khai) but new arrest warrants had been issued for them.

Polioce Chief no suspects, Miliotary 17 held, if it was not reported and printed you could not make up the incompetence and double talk by senior officals could you. Noddy of Toytown was better organised and he had Big ears to help him.

Could it all be starting to unravel (once again)!?

"...Voicing his person view, Pol Gen Chakthip said he believes the attacks were not perpetrated by southern militants ... although the bombs used in the attacks were similar to the type of bombs that exploded in several spots in Bangkok 10 years ago...."

A fitting comparison! Apart from the fact that numerous arrests were made in 2006, no one was ever held to account from those bombings, and southern militants were later seen to be the prime suspects (http://pages.citebite.com/f1g3u7n9a2elh)

So the National Police Chief

(Who's presumably kept abreast of progress) hasn'the a clue what is going to happen. They've got some CCTV footage of some people who may be suspects, but don't know who they are or where they have gone. The bombs were similar to those used in the south but he doesn't think the bombers are from the southern insurgency because that would be far too uncomfortable and doesn't fit with his wishes. Oh and the Army has rounded up 17 people,  but he (National Police Chief) doesn't know who they are, where they are or why they have been lifted.

Fair enough, got on the telly again though so that's a plus!
