Runners around Pratumnak Hill/Big Buddha area

Featured Replies

I have noticed late afternoons and early evenings running groups around the Pratunmak Hill/Big Buddha area.

Does anyone know if there are organised running groups or clubs you can join or if people just go for a run there on an informal baises?

Also does anyone know the best route to run in that area?

Thanks

People go alone or with their colleagues or training partners or friends. No fitness level expected or disrespected.

Just do it. There's a nice little circuit beginning from the Tourist police office. You don't need to run. You can walk, or jog. It's a good place to keep fit. There is also a new gym right next to the Tourist police station. Something like 40 baht per visit. Can't remember if there is a monthly option. There is also some basic Muay Thai training at the police box at the entrance to the viewpoint.

I often used to have a run around the park. Anyone and everyone is able to do so.

There are a number of groups who like to have a run around together and also have races. Most of these groups have Westeners running with them, I'm sure if you wanted to join one they would be more than happy to have you as a runner. I have noticed lots of the Thai runners in the groups are fluent in English.

P.s. don't forget to give Follow and Snowdrop a bag of food. Follow is the dog with the split tongue, Snowdrop is his girlfriend, she is a filthy white colour. They both hang around the seats at the start line.

She's a troublemaker that one. There are four in that group, including two black dogs. Feed one, feed 'em all. I only see them following one person around the the track.

Yeah, I agree.  The drinking part of that group I just never got.  Same groups all over here in the USA.  Never interested me.  Just thought I would mention it in case there is a spinoff or at least a place to maybe meet up with some other runners over there

Yes just do it , I walk most of the time for a few kilometres at least twice a week, it's the only place in Pattaya where you don't have to worry about traffic.

The dogs there are used to people running around.  Can't imagine under what circumstance he got bitten. Perhaps another part of the hill or maybe he was afraid and tried to shoo the dogs. That only encourages dogs. Better to call them over if you are afraid. But don't try to touch them until they are comfortable with you.

The dogs on the circuit we describe are quite used to runners, as opposed to dogs on other parts of the hill. On the way up to the viewpoint for example, there are a lot less runners, so perhaps the dogs there are more nervous.

Stick to the circuit around Buddha Hill if you are afraid of dogs.

There is a group that runs at the Budda Hill.  They start at about 4 or 4:30, normally 15 to 20 people I think.  It is the 'Pattaya Team' if I am not mistaken.  I have run with them a couple of times.  When you get the the 4 way intersection at the base of the hill, they meet right off the the left there.  The hash house harriers is a different thing unrelated to this group (I am a member).
