passport - requirements

Featured Replies

Hello guys,

Nationality : Belgium.

Could you tell me if --- three (3) free pages in a passport --- are enough for applying for a thai visa (tourist visa or ED-visa).

I think it's two free pages they need (one for the visa sticker and at least another for the stamps) but I'd like to get a confirmation.

Thank you and have a nice day,

M

One full page for visa and partial(s) for stamps should be enough but seems it would be best to get a new passport if down that low and intending to do travel (which may mean more visas/stamps).

Three pages should be enough in most cases.

For just the visa for here it would be one for the visa sticker. If you have any space on other pages for entry/departure stamps it would be enough.

If getting a the visa from a nearby country you have to consider the visa on arrival also. Laos and Cambodia require a empty page for the VOA sticker.

If still in Belgium I suggest getting a new passport before starting your trip. I have read some posts about them being difficult for issuing a new passport at the embassy here.

Thank you guys. The answer is there. Three pages is so enough to get back in Thailand from a neighbouring country. I was almost pretty sure about but the rules are always changing a lot in this area of the world, as you know, and so ... I asked.

I have other questions but I don't want to be out of topic. So, I will make new posts.

------ Ubonjoe --> Any link to the posts about the difficulties to get a new passport here for Belgian citizens from their embassy is however very ... welcome. I'm facing that problem now precisely. It is out of topic but it is precisely because of that, that I asked the question above ... I'm also trying to solve this problem but it's on the belgian side ... Thank you very much for your help.

Posts that I can recall would be hard to find. If I recall correctly one was a problem of declaring residency here or back in Belgium. They would not a person change it here in order to get a passport since they were on a tourist visa.

Yes, that's the problem.

- For getting a new passport in a foreign country you need to be on the list of the belgian consulate/ embassy in this foreign country.

- For being on the list, you need a residence and a permit of stay in this foreign country of at least, 6 months. If when your passport is almost full, unluckily, you're not in that situation, it's becoming a problem.

- Indeed, by the belgian law, you cannot get a passport if you do not have a residence. If, for some reasons, you were an expatriated worker here or elsewhere in the world for years and anyway, you don't have a residence in your "home" country any more for years and flying back doesn't solve excepted at huge costs, the problem is getting more ' funny ' ... and it is for your lawyer.

The law is quite recent in Belgium. I got a new passport a few years ago in a foreign asian country at a moment when I was on an ordinary tourist visa, without any problem ...
