Teenager Makes Jail Break

A 17-year-old accused of theft and arrested by Sihanoukville police on Tuesday later escaped from prison, police said yesterday. Sihanoukville police chief Phol Phorsda said the escape happened on Tuesday night.
 

“The accused man escaped from the prison at about 9pm. The man said he had breathing problems and was showing difficulty breathing like he was about to die,” he said. “Because of this, prison officers allowed him to change from the small prison to the big one for better air to breathe.”
 

Officers handcuffed the man’s hands to the prison door, but somehow he managed to escape, the police chief added. The escapee was identified as Ly Deang, who was arrested on suspicion of stealing $2,000 from a 79-year-old man. The victim’s money has been returned, Mr. Phorsda said. “Now we are investigating to bring him back soon.”
