A pig farm supervisor and his employees allegedly beat up four journalists who tried to enter the farm to report on a controversy there in Battambang province’s Sampov Loun district on Wednesday. A reporter who requested anonymity told Khmer Times yesterday that the reporters were trying to do a story on pigs being imported from Thailand to that farm, which was suspected of importing both live and dead pigs, posing a potential health hazard.

“The four reporters were Sok Kosal and Kong Rathana from Khmer Mjas Srok newspaper, Hom Chamrouen from Radio and Television Free Asia and Sann Sokhom from Niseth Khmeng Wat newspaper,” he said. The four were allegedly beaten by the supervisor and employees of the pig farm in front of the farm’s gate, but there were no injuries or property damage, he said, adding that the reporters had yet to file a complaint to local police.

“This farm is a big place to store pigs among the three farms that import pigs from Thailand through Sampov Loun district,” he added. The incident happened at 10:30am on Wednesday near the Cambodia-Thai border in Trapang Prolet village in Sampov Loun district’s Santepheap commune.
