First trip to Chon Buri (Jomtien and a drive by Pattaya)

I have lived in Thailand for appx 10 years. Not consecutively as I had to travel back to the states for work. In that time I never had any desire to visit Chon Buri area because of all the negative press I had heard about it. My wife had never been either. This weekend the wife and I with some of our Thai friends ventured down there. We chose to stay on the Jomtien side from some recommendations. We stayed a very nice little place with a quiet beach. It was nice and we enjoyed the seafood restaurant not to far from the place.

We ventured out on Saturday morning in the Jomtien area. We went down by the harbor area and had breakfast. After that we went to the Pattaya side.  I have to say this area was utterly disgusting. It was congested with traffic, due to construction everywhere. Its filthy dirty. We went down along the main beach area and  it was loaded with old foreigner men already sitting in bars with some butt ugly girls and they looked drunk already by 11am. I do not know how you guys do it living there. It does however explain why people lose their minds and top themselves. Pattaya is weird place.

Whats the lure to live there?  The beaches were all dirty., the roads congested, side streets jammed and messy. I left there thinking that they call Pattaya a family town?. If I had children I wouldn't bring them there under any circumstances.

Anyway I am glad I have finally seen it for myself. Most of what is said about the place is pretty spot on.

Chon Buri is either a town or a big province. You made a trip to Pattaya. You'll find people that live there know that it's not limited to the tourist areas you visited. It's quite a big city.

By which harbor did you have breakfast in Jomtien?

I don't believe we need a dedicated Pattaya bashing topic that is only going to go one way
