That's the tree that's gonna make us rich, claim Nakhon Pathom villagers

NAKHON PATHOM: -- It is a finger pointing picture with a difference - this time it is villagers saying: "That is the tree that is going to make us rich!"

The tree in question is a persimmon tree slap bang in the middle of a road leading to the village of Kamphaeng Saen in Nakhon Pathom east of Bangkok, reported Sanook.

Villagers believe the tree is sacred and protects their community so they treat it with reverence, And, of course, ask for some lottery numbers too.

A 78 year old resident called La-iat told reporters that the tree had been growing there since she was a child and must be 100 years old by now. The villagers used to use it to dye cloth.

Years later the authorities decided to build a road but as they were preparing to cut it down a series of unfortunate accidents and mishaps occurred.

Naturally, they believed that the tree was telling them something so they petitioned the local authority to leave it in place.

Now the tree takes up one lane of the road.

It is surrounded by all the trappings of the superstitious and the hopeful - candles, incense, cloth and garlands.

And while reporters were there people came with a "siam sii" shaker to get those vital numbers for the upcoming lottery. The number 701 came up.

So don't blame us if that number wins and you don't have a ticket!

I can't see the tree. Hang on a sec. I just looked to the right of the pic and noticed some people pointing. Ah, there it is.

"....the village of Kamphaeng Saen in Nakhon Pathom east of Bangkok, reported Sanook. "

I am not Thai, but I was always under the impression Nakhon Pathom was a province to the west of Bangkok.

How much luck will this tree bring to someone driving into it  :whistling:

And how many villagers have gotten rich in all that time?

just when you think it can't get any stupider.

I really hope that road isn't open to traffic.....but I wouldn't be surprised either.

If I hit the tree can I sue??

it's probably you who will be sued

Maybe, if you cut it into planks and sell 'em.

"Believe anything bs"

Do they know what Democracy is, beyond the chance to sell their votes?

78 year old grandma grew up there and saw the tree ever since she was small, she is 78 now...not rich....good luck waiting for the rest of the younger folks in the picture

I'm kind of wondering if all the ribbons and bows are memorials to people killed running into the tree in the middle of the night?

,,,,,,55555,,,,,

Along the same line of thinking.  There are those termite mounds all over the place. That have structures built covering them. Some of them have ribbons as well.
