November 24, 200619 yr This city always seems to be ignored when talking about tourist visas. Anyone got any experiences? Otherwise guess Penang is the best bet?

November 25, 200619 yr This is a much better city than some others. Try it. The flights with Air Asia are only 5K roundtrip. And from... a tourist point of view, it's really a beautifull city. Probably the most charming in all south-east asia. But... beware of the weather : don't go there from mid december to end of february : cold and small rain. Totally depressing.

That could be a good reason to go there. After years of living in hot balmy climates, some cool weather would be great.
December 3, 200619 yr Great city. I have experience getting a tourist visa in hanoi. The process works just like other regional consulates except for one important difference: you *must* provide a plane ticket that shows you going out of Thailand within 60 days in the future. They won't accept your application without this and will make a photo copy of your ticket. So I think most visa runners can scratch hanoi off their list.

How will a person get a visa if they have an e-ticket? Edited December 3, 200619 yr by tropo
December 3, 200619 yr Got a Non Imm B there no problem, despite the fact the school forgot to tell me I needed the letter from the MoE. She was very understanding in the office and doubt anyone will have any problems in obtaining a tourist visa there. If you book around 90days in advance can get air asia round trip from as cheap as 3500bht.

December 3, 200619 yr In case it wasn't completely clear: you need to provide them an onward ticket going *out* of Thailand, not into it. Your round trip Air Asia tickets to hanoi and back won't do. My guess is this is their test to verify you are a bonified tourist and not living there. I had originally called them and found out about this process, and when I arrived they did indeed ask for it and copy it. The other things to note is whenever you talk Vietnam, the disadvantage is you need to buy an expensive visa (the most expensive in the area?), and do so in advance. The cost is a graduated scale; the earlier you apply the cheaper. I would recommend having a travel agent take care of this rather than the hassle of making two trips to the Vietnam Embassy in Bangkok.

I can get a printout of my e-ticket anywhere and usually get one on my own pc, and always carry it with me when I travel. I'm querying how the Vietmanese Consulate would view an e-ticket as evidence of leaving Thailand after 60 days. Considering that E-tickets can very easily be edited on a computer, will they be accepted? Edited December 3, 200619 yr by tropo
January 18, 200719 yr I just saw this post after posting in another thread. Can some one confirm that you need a ticket that shows you are going to leave with in 60 days? thanks.
January 19, 200719 yr I just saw this post after posting in another thread. Can some one confirm that you need a ticket that shows you are going to leave with in 60 days? thanks. I just got a 60 day tourist visa there about a month ago, didn't need to show anything. I gave the lady my passport, and the cost in USD. The next day i came back and got my stamped passport. I found Hanoi to be much easier than Panang, Cambodia or Laos.
January 19, 200719 yr I got my first non imm b from Hanoi, there was only one other person in the embassy. Dropped the application off around 11am and collected it at 4pm (took a bit of grovelling on my part) but you need to take US Dollars to pay for the visa and get an entry visa from the VN embassy in BKK. If you need to get dollars there it's not easy but you might get them from a gold shop.
