Two Trucks Hit a Train

Featured Replies

A truck crashed into the side of a stationary freight train in Kampot province on Saturday morning, an hour after a truck carrying ice had also driven into the train at the crossing, stopping the train. The freight train, fully loaded with gravel bound for Phnom Penh, was struck by the ice truck just after 11am as it passed through Angkor Chey district’s Tani commune, commune police chief Sou Born told Khmer Times yesterday.

The impact caused serious damage to the truck, but the train was not damaged, he said. “While the police were measuring the scene, another truck carrying goods driving at high speed hit the train, even though people were trying to stop him,” he said.

“The two trucks were wrong because when the train crosses the road, the level barrier was lowered to stop vehicles crossing at the time,” Mr. Born said, noting that both drivers, who were uninjured in the crashes, were not drunk. Provincial deputy police chief Oeng Sokhon declined to answer questions on the incident and whether any compensation had been requested by rail operator Royal Railway.
