Authorities in Prey Veng province briefly chased a truck with fake military license plates on Sunday that was carrying luxury wood hidden under rice, causing the driver to abandon the truck and flee on foot, police said yesterday. A Preah Sdech district police official who declined to give his name confirmed the chase took place in his district.
 

“I was informed about the case and I am trying to contact the military police to get more information. Right now, the provincial police are in charge of the case,” he said. Chhuon Kimsan, the deputy provincial military police commander, said his forces chased the truck after the driver refused to stop.
 

“We gave a short chase after the truck which was carrying 15 pieces of wood. However, the driver had already fled the scene when we got to the truck,” he said. “The truck was using a Royal Cambodian Armed Forces license plate, which was painted. It was a fake license plate. We don’t know where the truck was heading because the driver has not been identified yet,” he said, adding that his forces were trying to find the driver.
