Featured Replies

Three men died on Sunday evening after the driver of the car they were in lost control at high speed and went into an irrigation canal in Banteay Meanchey province, police said. Provincial deputy traffic police chief Ki Makara said the three men drowned in the car before locals were able to pull them out. He blamed the crash on the speeding driver.

“The driver drove too fast and after trying to overtake another car in a dangerous situation, he couldn’t control the car, and that’s why it careened into a canal which was full of water,” he said. He named the victims as teacher Chu Cheat and Coca-Cola employees Huy Lasang and Sen Tola. All three were 32 years old, he said, but added it was unclear who had actually been driving the vehicle as the bodies had already been recovered from the car when police arrived. Mr. Makara added that it was unclear if alcohol had been involved.

According to police, 919 people died in 1,900 traffic accidents in the first six months of 2016, a 12 percent decline in fatalities from the same period last year.
