About 20 Zika cases confirmed in Bangkok but there are no fatalities yet

 

BANGKOK:-- About 20 cases of Zika virus infection have been confirmed in Bangkok, but none of them have shown any symptoms of sickness, said Dr Wanthanee Wattana, deputy city clerk of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.

 

All of the cases have been placed under watch for a 30-day period of time to ensure that they will not fall sick and will be fine, she adding that they were asked to confine themselves at homes so as not to spread the virus.

 

Meanwhile, a pregnant woman in Sathorn area who was diagnosed of being infected with Zika virus and fell sick has given birth to a baby and both the mother and the child are doing well, said Dr Wanthanee.

Anyway, the fact they have the virus is a reason to be concerned, let9 not forget, not all that are infected seek nedical assistance, so 20 cases is only the tip of the iceberg.

If Singapore has over 200 cases, multiply that by 10 for Thailand. I don't believe it.

They simply dont know how many cases are out there, Thais will never admit there is a problem , as they know it will affect tourism .

Ah but, if you read the article and what the august spokesman said "confined to small areas" eg. Bangkok; Issan; Far North; Eastern Seaboard; Central and Southern regions.

Exactly! So I wonder when are they to going to admit there is an outbreak?

 

According to the WHO, an outbreak, or "Increasing or widespread transmission" is defined as "More than 10 locally transmitted cases of Zika virus are reported in a single area, OR at least two separate areas report locally transmitted cases of Zika virus, OR Zika virus transmission is ongoing in an area for more than 3 months."

 

Thailand now scores an 'X' in all three scenarios.

<deleted>. The infected should be asked to refrain from unprotected sex, other than that there is zero risk of person to person transmission (other than mother to unborn child).

Why would fatalities be important?  It is not known to be fatal, unless you abort the baby..........  And you can bet that if the confirmed cases are 20, then undiagnosed or misdiagnosed will be hundreds times more.

Zika virus can be passed from a pregnant woman to her fetus.Infection during pregnancy can cause certain birth defects. Zika primarily spreads through infected mosquitoes. You can also get Zika through sex.There is no vaccine to prevent or medicine to treat Zika.

 

What we do not know.

 

If there’s a safe time during your pregnancy to travel to an area with Zika. How likely it is that Zika infection will affect your pregnancy. If your baby will have birth defects if you are infected while pregnant.

Pray tell us. Why is it always tha magic number of 20 cases that's been found albeit now having the alternative of - about.

Candy coated news is a favourite of any scoops that even have an inkling to affect or constitute a decline in tourism. Thus, from bombs to lethal mossie bites people living in Thailand are easily dispensable when the Thai baht is at risk.

Zika is largely a concern to pregnant/trying to become pregnant women, correct?  Most healthy adults need worry very little, as while it has links to Guillain-Barre Syndrome, this is rare and symptoms otherwise tend to be mild?  At least that was the impression I have received, though I have not read extensively on it lately.

hope for the best as this virus is likely to travel to countries hosting tourists. best us to keep monitoring and exercising the usual precautions.

unfortunately zika is not rare and it has spread all over the world. the symptoms tend to be mild and the effect on pregnant women depends on the strain of the virus.

I didn't say Zika was rare.  I said that Zika causing issues related to Guillain-Barre was rare.

Suwannachai said that 30 pregnant women with Zika were being monitored in Thailand. So far, six of the women had given birth without complications or any birth defects.

 

Sixteen out of Thailand’s 76 provinces have confirmed cases of Zika since January this year, according to the health ministry, but no birth defects or deaths have been reported.

 

“There have been no deaths or complications so far, so I urge our brothers and sisters not to be alarmed,” said Suwannachai.

They're talking about the complications which happen weeks later.

 

You won't read much about this as it's devastating when it happens, you could get bitten and be dead weeks later.

If you have Zika and a mosquito bites you the mosquito will catch it from you. Mosquitos are not born with Zika. This is how it spreads. Apparently this happens during the first 7 days after infection.

 

I think this works with most animals like cattle as well but these particular mosquitos prefer to bite people.

What have I done to upset you?

as already brought up in previous Threads, and again in some previous Postswithin this Thread; about that in cases of births happening where the zika virus has been coincidentally detected...

 

and add to that, also in earlier Posts that the births of children, with the zika virus - have no birth defects detected...

 

Put it all together, and yet again it is clear that zika virus has nothing to do with the attributed birth defects.

 

It is only if the unfortunate mother has been bitten by a mosquito, that has been laboratory-infected (sprayed) with the concoction used to cause infertility in the following generation(s) of mosquito

 

the mad-scientist experiment has now spread it's dirty fingers worldwide

 

 

It is the chemicals that are causing the birth defects, not the zika virus itself
