Snake identification

Featured Replies

Can someone tell me what this snake is?  He lives in my yard. I don't want my cats to hurt him or him to hurt my cats. He's small, about 2 feet.

Cobra?

I hope not

Moved to Pets section.

Looks like one of the common Rat snakes.  Could be a Kuri also but not sure.  Harmless.  The blue eyes indicate it's either starting or finishing molting.  It's partially blind.

Thank you.  I don't mind having snakes around the house, if they are harmless   I'd rather not touch him or move him on.

Love it.  OP is concerned about a potentially lethally venomous snake, and it's moved to the "Pets section".

Sorry.  Just tickled my fancy.

Well, I guess he could be considered my "pet snake" now.

Would go for common rat snake also, cobras do not climb.

My best guess would be a rat snake too, but worryingly, I tend to 'identify' all brown/blackish couloured snakes as rat snakes until they start flattening their head and rearing up....:(.

Well I guess my "pet snake" is happy now. He had a frog for breakfast :bah:
