Manhunt for gunman who shot dead five people at US shopping mall

A man armed with a rifle is on the loose after shooting five people dead at a shopping mall in the United States.

Police are hunting the suspected gunman, caught on surveillance camera, during the attack on Friday night at Burlington, just over 100 km north of Seattle.

The four women killed in the Cascade Mall were reportedly shot in the make-up section of a department store. One critically injured male victim later died of his wounds.

Police believe a lone gunman, described as an Hispanic male, was involved. Local people in Burlington, in Washington State near the Canadian border, are being advised to stay indoors while he remains on the run.

The attack comes less than a week after a man stabbed nine people at a mall in Minnesota before being shot dead in what is being investigated as a potential act of terrorism.

US media is reporting that Washington State Patrol have said there is no indication of terrorism in the Burlington shooting.

“Tragedy has struck in Washington tonight. Our hearts are in Burlington,” Washington Governor Jay Inslee said on Twitter.

Yes, news sources are saying he has been caught in Oak Harbor.

Security cameras show the shooter walking into the mall with no weapon.  Ten minutes later he has a rifle.  Where did he get the rife?

Likely he stashed it during a previous visit.

Sadly all these shooters are playing right into Trumps hand.

This is yesterdays news today 8 people were wounded in Baltimore. I am rather numbed to all this violence now when I turn on the TV and internet.

In America any hardware store I would have thought or maybe a Walmart?  He was in a shopping mall after all.

Could he have purchased a firearm on the spot in this mall ? I read somewhere he was court ordered not to own a firearm for a prior assault.

that's not going to improve the mood of our left wing posters...

Troll post removed.

The detective methods of the US police do appear to be far superior to those of the Thais.  One wonders how many criminals in Thailand would be located at all were it not for CCTV cameras, assuming of course that they are actually working?  In some cases, it seems that somewhat conveniently, they are not.  This no doubt explains why all the officials involved in corruption are rarely charged with anything.  You see, no cameras!

Hopefully President Clinton will effect real gun control legislation.
