PM defends the use of special power to deal with losses from rice pledging scheme

 

 

BANGKOK:-- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha said on Sunday that the government has strictly complied with the law and legal proceedings in seeking compensation for loss incurred from the mismanagement of the rice pledging scheme.

 

He also denied the allegations that his government has bullied or discriminated against those responsible for implementation of the rice pledging scheme.

 

“..has not bullied anyone or being biased against anyone. There are duties to perform. If the government does not do it now, it will face charge of malfeasance in office in accordance with Section 157 of the Criminal Code,” said the prime minister, adding that the government has to act now because the statute of limitations of the case will expire next February.

What's that? Statute of Limitations? How fortuitous. Perhaps you can charge Yingluck for malfeasance in office in accordance with Section 157 of the Criminal Code because she didn't charge you??

But one rather gets the impression that they are finding it difficult to find anyone who is actually prepared to initiate actions under these "special powers".

 

Can't imagine why, it's not as if they are not covered by an amnesty if "the wrong team end up in power".......

More bloody lies from this fool.  He granted himself and his gang an total amnesty protecting them from any charges prior, during and after the coup and then he has Article 44 to prevent anyone comming after him.  They are totally untouchable and if you value your life you will bow down to them.

A charge of malfeasance, and just who is going to bring such a charge against the junta and I mean a charge not just an allegation ?

There is no compliance with the law full stop.

No one here likes to be responsible, accountable or do something which might mean a loss of face in the future. Top to bottom and bottom to top, all the same.

Add that to the patronage, inability to deal with conflict, self centered money driven egos and voila - you have the perfect merry go around of why nothing changes, and never will.

I really not need say much about this man. He has shown everything himself. All he has said over 2 years was crap. He wants only money and a pat on the back. His a good man lol.

complied with the laws he makes up as he goes along. very nice politic speak. have to wonder how any court cases proceed as the system is greased and stalled by brown envelopes.  i was thinking they weren't getting through this case as they hoped yingluck would flee thailand.  only 5 months to go and the army will see (their form of) justice one way or another

He really has no sense of shame, or irony.

 

The void in whatever minimal moral authority might have existed here has been filled by this man.

But that's exactly the same argument you and others use whenever someone talks about the untouchable junta and its cronyism.

No doubt there will be no problem with the same special powers being used in the future to squash all self given immunities and to circumnavigate the law as it appears they are currently being used by the current incumbents.

How reassuring. I am sure after the next election the term malfeasance will replace article 44 and rest assured the government of the day will operate under a microscope with the malfeasance hammer hanging over their head constantly. It will be impossible to get people of good character to run for office. One wrong move and the powerful appointed senate will malfeasance you out of office.

Wonder if they could ever be charged outside of Thailand, perhaps by the Hague.   His actions are somewhat similar to other unelected "leaders" in South America and Africa.  He can take without any liability.  The junta is only afraid of the outside world.

Look at the past and you will see the future. 18 coups and charters in Thailand short attempt at democracy. Short spell of democracy allowed only at the pleasure of the establishment. Even the military could not guarantee the future when asked if this is the last coup. Brace yourself if you intend to stay here for the long term. Something got to give.
