BANGKOK: -- PRIME Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha will appoint forward ministers to try to rein in unrest in the Deep South in the next few days.

Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan confirmed yesterday that the appointments would be made this week but refused to reveal who would get the most important posts.

Unrest has raged on in Thailand's southernmost region for more than 10 years already, with bloody incidents erupting almost on a daily basis. Despite much effort, the government has been unable to end the ongoing violence.

What's a 'forward minster'? When I googled, it comes up with a bunch of evangelist sites, hallelujah! Maybe it's some military term, meaning a minister for conflict area?

Looks like peacetalks with the insurgency are no longer a priority. The decades-old insurgency has been downgraded to "unrest" that will likely be addressed by more government security forces.

Thus sustaining the status quo of violence.

Lets not be to forward here we are after all looking for a solution. Its been festering for years so do not send somebody with a lot of salad dressing on their uniforms and aspirations of advancement through the ranks. This situation could be a career killer.

" Despite much effort....  "

Nope!

The blind leading the blind? Anything learned after 10 years? Anyone looked at how others may have succeeded in similar situations? Or will the "wheel" once again be re-invented in Thailand? :coffee1:
