Money in bank method: ...

800k in bank for 2 months prior to application for extension and maintained for 3 months after extension and not below 400k in remaining months.

The stunt BBL is pulling on customers has nothing to do with immigration.

The bank is refusing to provide Bank Letter unless funds have been in account for 4 months. Ridiculous

Once the four month period passes the Bangkok Bank will unlock the funds and it will be in your available balance to be used.

As Dr Jack said it has nothing to do with immigrations and is a Bangkok Bank policy for them to issue documentation you need to present to the immigration office for your visa/extension.

Remember, after you get the year extension you still need the money to stay in the account for 3 months, and then the balance can never go below 400k the rest of the year

No, because it falls below THB400K unless you are simultaneously (as in the same day)* able to put THB400K of the THB600K into another bank, then it should be ok, although you will doubtless face some inquiries and hassle at the next renewal. I have considered this myself, but the chances of something going awry have put me off.

*withdrawal of cash from Bangkok Bank and deposit of cash in another preferred bank, on the same day.

Read what I posted in first reply.

If you withdrew 600k that (most likely) puts you under 400k

You need to be careful when you transfer funds to new account (different bank)

Suggest wait till after 3 months post obtaining extension and transfer 400k (minimum) into new account.

Afterwhich you can use the 400k remaining in the BBL account.

Be aware that for the following extenion you need to bring balance back up to 800k for two months prior to application.

Note you will need to supply bank letter and bank statement for both banks at next extension as both accounts were used to meet financial compliance.

This comes up.

Thinking best option is to wait the 3 months after obtaining extension.

Already open a new bank account during that time.

When the 400k window opens transfer 400k from existing account into account with new bank.

This ensures funds never below 400k

Realize you are aware of that by what you posted.

Posting for others as my guess is some folk will boot BBL.

BTW: if anyone does this and at some point shuts the account keep the bank book.

I surrendered mine and CW imm were very unhappy even though I obtained bank statement.

Bangkok Bank continues their ridiculous policy which make no sense. For those using the 800k in a Thai bank they insist it be in the account 4 months in advance (Immigration only requires 2 months). If it the full 800k has not been there for the 4 months, Bangkok bank freezes that amount from the account for the next 4 months (Immigration requires the 800k remain for 3 months and as mentioned, during the other 7 months it is not to fall below 400K).

For those using the 65k monthly income method, they refuse to give the verification method unless you bring your account balance up to 800k and if done, most likely they would freeze that amount for the next 4 months.

I do my annual renewal in June using the monthly income method - at least 65k deposited each month into a Thai bank account from a foreign source. In July & August last year I made the transfers into my Bangkok Bank account. But when Bangkok Bank started playing their silly games in September, I opened an account with Kasikorn Bank and made my next 10 transfers into that account.

I did my renewal on June 23rd. I had already obtained certified bank statements from Bangkok Bank for Jul & Aug. I obtained my certified statements from Kasikorn along with bank account verification letter the day before. I didn't bother getting a Bangkok Bank verification letter being aware of the current policy.

The Immigration Officer reviewed all my documents, highlighting the usual items including monthly transfers then said I needed a verification letter from Bangkok Bank. I said I did not believe they would give me one, but he said for me to go to the branch in Central Festival Beach and they would provide it. He also said I needed to update my Bangkok Bank passbook. Since it was full, I knew it would require a new one for the update. The Immigration placed a small note in Thai with my documents, stapled them all together and returned them to me.

I decided to first give the a try at the branch where I opened the account. No problem in getting updated passbook. The supervisor for the counter personnel looked through my passport noting I had a retirement extension. As expected, she said she could not give me a verification letter until I deposited 800k in the account.

This led to about 10 minutes of me explaining and insisting during which she made some phone calls, apparently to someone higher up. I showed her my packet of documents already reviewed by Immigration and pointed out the Kasikorn Bank provided the a verification letter with an account balance far below 800k and the bank statements from Bangkok Bank and Kasikorn Bank which had already been reviewed by Immigration with the monthly deposits highlighted.

I think it was the fact that Kasikorn had issued a verification letter that finally persuaded her to give me one, but before doing so, she held up my passbook and asked if I was going to use it for my extension renewal next year. I told her no, I would be using Kasikorn account. She then issued the verification letter. If she had still refused, I would have tried the branch at Central Festival Beach. But since I did get it at my branch, I have no way to know whether the branch there would have been successful.

What really gets me is why Bangkok Bank has instituted such a policy. They should just provide the verification letter and leave it up to the Immigration Officer to determine if it was sufficient to approve the extension.

Visa code 2.22 retirement

Bank deposit guarantee of 800,000 bahts

In accordance with regulations, you are required to present your bank statement every 3 months at the time of your TM47 application to show your bank balance, which cannot be less than 400,000 baht for the remainder of your visa period.

Simple, Thailand wants to hold your money hostage. It gives the banks more capital to work without having to actually pay you interest.

I am confused. First, this stamp is from 2019. Rather stale.

Second, I don't see any mention of presenting the bank statement. The handwritten text in red says ยื่นที่ ฝ่ายการต่างประเทศ , which means, roughly "Submit at the Foreign Affairs Division."

Am I missing something?

I transferred my original funds for non-o retirement from bbl to kbank a number of years ago. Left Thailand and my non-o lapsed while out of the country. My question is, are the funds in the kbank still usable and marked as foreign transfer and could still be used for a new non-o retirement?

This "requirement" depends on IMM office. CW in Bangkok does not require it, (as I write).

If you obtain the Non O outside of Thailand then funds in a bank account do not need to have proof of international transfer.

If the Non O is obtained in Thailand from visa exempt/ tourist visa then funds must be from abroad.

HOWEVER.... if the funds have been in the bank for some time then proof of funds from abroad not required.

Best to obtain Non O eVisa IMO

Your bank shouldn't have been able to "freeze" any money in your account. You should be able to withdraw it all if you want.

Now, that would eventually affect your Immigration status, but that's not a reason for your bank to "freeze" your account.

You will have to have a minimum of 400K the rest of the year.

2 months of 800K Before extension application and 3 months of 800K after the granted extension.

I don't have any problems with the Bangkok Bank I use a term deposit account ,

No hassles
