New Russian military base 100km from Ukraine ‘almost ready’

 

 

ROSTOV: -- Russia is completing the construction of a large military base in the southern Rostov region, some 100 kilometres from the border with Ukraine.

 

The base consisting of three military facilities is the latest in a chain of new military sites, part of what the Kremlin sees as an important counterpoint to NATO.

 

Up to 10,000 service personnel are expected to be deployed at the site which will reportedly house a motorised rifle division.

 

Western observers have been nervous about recent increased Russian military movements and drills near the Ukrainian border over the summer.

 

Large numbers of troops and tanks have reportedly moved into several bases.

 

Some analysts see the permanent nature of the facilities being built as evidence thatRussia’s long-term plan is to keep Ukraine in check – but with the ability to respond quickly if necessary.

Great!  Seems NATO has a green light to build a similar base. 10,000 soldiers.  Should make Putin happy.

NATO doesn't have any rights to bild even the smallest bases on Ukrainian territory, that's a red light.

Agreed!  But Estonia, Latvia and a few other countries are great candidates.  It'd be only fair, right?

Its just sad that half of the worlds resources are spent on military, Why is the human race so hell bent on power. We could all be living well.

Way to go Nato. Have learned nothing in the past 71 years. The Russians are not threatening Ukraine but like the cold war. If you want play one up man ship with the Russians they will up the anti. Time for some level headed Diplomacy and hard negotiating. Unless you want a hot zone in Europe and Ukraine will be the scorch point. Do not keep puffing out your chests and saying we are right. Hurting a peoples pride (Russia) goes all ways. Talk and keep the Military in check

So yes, it is about threatening Ukraine.  A sovereign country.  Otherwise, why build the base there?  There are NO Nato bases anywhere near there.

No trying to match the USA's military spending and the inability to deliver consumer goods to the people is what killed the USSR.
