My Thai wife and I (both US Citizens) took a year and one-half off from annual visits to Thailand and my Non-OA extension lapsed.

I plan an 80 day visit with my wife (she has Thai id and US passport) and wonder if Visa Exempt for me  can be extended once for 60 days in our hometown of Mukdahan?  We have copies of our marriage there and she owns a home there and does have house registration.  We are also well known to Immigration there (very nice folks indeed) after 8  annual trips.

If not Visa Exempt, do I need a regular Tourist Visa?

Thanks for the help!

so you will apply for a visa exemption the only problem being if you have no ticket out of Thailand within 30 days of arrival then the airline might not let you board the airplane

Visa exempt can be renewed for 30 days without having to make a border run.  So you would get the initial 30 + 30 more.  But that won't get you to 80.  Sounds to me like you may need a single entry tourist visa, which can be good for 60 + 30 days with the extension.  I am sure you must apply for the extension before your last 60 days finished

The bording your flight without a ticket exiting Thailand within 30 days of entry could be a problem.  If you get that sorted, you can make a visa exempt entry. 30 days,  and extend it for 60 days at your local immigration office with the proper documentation and your wife with you,  "reason to visit Thai family"

To save the worry of getting the visa exempt entry and then a 60 day extension you could apply for a single entry non-o visa based upon marriage that would allow a 90 day entry.

You can apply for it in person or by mail at the embassy in DC or the consulates in New York, Chicago or Los Angeles or at one of the honorary consulates in person.

Thanks to all!  I do like the Non-O based on marriage and can easily drive to the Dallas Consulate.
I had forgotten this one as I had always had Non-O-A based on retirement.
